This is a month long celebration in May across the country celebrating the Virgin Mary. Folks of Taal offer flowers everyday at the Basilica. The procession of the Virgin Mary with the Hermana Mayor and the sagalas (young ladies dressed in gowns) is the culminating part of the celebration. Though religious in intent, the Flores de Mayo is a great excuse for merriment. In many barrios and parts of the town, the people set up a makeshift chapel or tuklong for floral offerings to the Blessed Mother. Every night, a young single lady invited her friends to honor the Virgin with prayers, hymns, flowers, and a procession. Afterwards, they enjoy food and drinks and may dance and sing into the late hours.
