On 27 October 2012, Mall of Asia’s SMX Convention Center was a packed house for the BURDANG TAAL Habing Pilipino Fashion Show.  International trends have turned their interest towards Filipino raw materials and the country’s centuries-old embroidery talent known as, Burdang Taal.  Fashion iconic countries, such as the United States and those in Europe, are looking to the Philippines for their current inspiration.

For Philippine Fashion Week, the Provincial Government of Batangas in cooperation with the Municipality of Taal, brought together sixteen of the most talented Filipino designers to support the international demand for Burdang Taal.  These designers showcased the brilliance of Filipino talent for the world to see.  They are Anthony Nocom, Dong Omaga Diaz, Gerry Katigbak, JC Buendia, Randy Ortiz, Vic Barba, Edgar Madamba, Edgar San Diego, Fanny Serrano, Johnny Abad, Jontie Martinez, Lito Perez, Ole Morabe, Oskar Peralta, Richard Papa and Rolando Lirio.

The fashion show kicked off with an inspiring video presentation, with opening and closing remarks from Batangas Governor, Hon. Vilma Santos-Recto.  The video celebrates the valuable and beautiful characteristics of the province of Batangas.  It highlights the heritage town of Taal, which is the central industry of Burdang Taal.  The video segued into a Bergamo menswear collection, showing off clean classic jackets and the world famous Barong Tagalog shirts.  These mini collections of Burdang Taal were beautifully tailored for men and women in current fashion trends, catering to urban lifestyle.

The fashion show was aptly attended by several influential Filipinos and hosted by the Vice Governor of Batangas, Hon. Mark Leviste.  The event proclaimed the antiquated art form to be very much alive and “here to stay,” as Hon. Mark Leviste boldly remarked.  >>> See slideshow below
